6 Ways to know if a Disney cruise is right for your family
Are you interested in taking your family on a cruise? There are many cruise lines to choose from, and you may find yourself wondering which would be the best choice for your family. Here are several features that make Disney Cruise Line different from the rest.
1. Kid-friendly shows that appeal to all ages
Each Disney ship is home to three spectacular Broadway-caliber shows that appeal to both children and adults. No need to worry about covering any eyes or ears; each show is safe and entertaining for the entire family.
2. Rotational dining
On a Disney cruise, you will experience dinner in each of the three themed-dining venues. Upon boarding, you will receive your restaurant schedule. Each evening, you and your two assigned servers will rotate to a different restaurant. The same servers will serve you for the duration of your cruise, allowing them to learn your preferences and provide personalized service. Children’s menus are available in all of the restaurants.
3. Larger staterooms with a split bathroom
On average, staterooms on Disney ships are 25% larger than the industry standard, and many of them can even accommodate a family of five. Even better, most have what is called a “split bath,” which consists of two small rooms – one with a sink and toilet and another with a sink and tub/shower. This feature can be invaluable for a family of four or five, when everyone needs to get ready at the same time.
4. Castaway Cay
Most Disney cruise itineraries visit Disney’s very own private island, Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. While other cruise lines have private islands as well, most have to tender guests to shore in lifeboats. At Castaway Cay, the ships dock, allowing you to walk right off the ship and into paradise. On the island, you will find pristine beaches (lined with umbrellas, hammocks, and lounge chairs), a delicious lunch prepared for you on the island, water sports and activities, a convenient shuttle system, as well as separate areas available for families, adults, and children.
5. Youth clubs
Compared to other cruise lines, the youth clubs on Disney ships are larger, open longer, and elaborately themed. Providing a secure and safe place where children can choose to play independently or participate in organized activities, these spaces are appreciated by adults and kids alike. Characters have even been known to visit from time to time. The clubs are typically open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (even later for teens), and counselors will provide meals and sleeping mats as needed. If your child needs you, there’s a paging system, so that you can always be in touch.
6. Fireworks at sea
Disney Cruise Line is the only place you can experience fireworks at sea. Most itineraries feature a Pirate Night celebration which includes a pirate-themed dinner, deck party, characters dressed in pirate garb, and of course, a fantastic fireworks display that the entire family will love.
