Day 8: Disembarkation in Sitka
We pulled into Sitka around 6 a.m. It was the first time in days we’d seen any signs of civilization in days.
Breakfast was served a half-hour earlier, at 7 a.m. We were instructed to leave our luggage outside our cabin door before heading to breakfast. While we dined, the crew offloaded our luggage.
The breakfast choices were biscuits and gravy with an egg over easy or an omelet with shallot, mushrooms and manchego cheese.
After breakfast, we waited in the lounge until it was time to disembark. Around 8am, we began filing off the ship. As we exited, we said farewell to Captain Doug and Expedition Leader Skiba. The rest of the crew were standing on the decks of the ship waving and shouting goodbye.
From there, we boarded a bus headed to Sitka. It was a short drive, but an inconvenient walk. The bus dropped us off at the UnCruise hospitality center located right in Downtown Sitka.
You can make arrangements with UnCruise for transportation to the airport. Most passengers opted to stay a night or two in Sitka before returning home. We did the same, not quite ready to leave the wonder of Alaska and make our entry back into real life.
UnCruise sails to several sunny destinations, too, like Hawaii, Costa Rica and the Sea of Cortes. Read our day-by-day account of the Mexico itinerary. You might feel like you’re sailing in an aquarium.
