6. St. Paul’s Cathedral
St. Paul’s Churchyard, South Bank
While the exterior dome is easily visible in the Death Eater’s attack on Millennium Bridge, part of the cathedral’s interior serves as a different location altogether. The stairs in the South West Clock Tower in St. Paul’s appear in the Harry Potter films as the staircase to Divination class with Professor Trelawney.
7. Piccadilly Circus Underground Station
Piccadilly Circus
Following Harry, Ron and Hermione’s escape from the attack on Bill Weasley and Fleur’s wedding, they apparate here. Over 400 extras had to be hired to film the scene from Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 1.
8. Lambeth Bridge
Lambeth Road, Lambeth
One of my favorite bits of magic from the books and movies is the Knight Bus, the magical triple-decker bus for stranded wizards. In the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry boards the Knight Bus and has it takes him to the Leaky Cauldron. During the wild ride, the Knight Bus crosses this very bridge and squeezes between two double-decker buses.
9. Great Scotland Yard
Scotland Place, Westminster
Surrounded by genuine government buildings, it seems natural that the movie location used as the entrance to Ministry of Magic is situated here. Fans of the films will recognize this intersection from that scene as the Ministry of Magic’s mystical entrance.
10. Australia House
Australia House, Strand
This beautiful building is even more magnificent on the inside. It’s so impressive that it was deemed worthy of being used for filming the interior scenes of Gringotts Bank. The bank is seen in several of the Harry Potter films but most prominently in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Sadly for Potter fans, the inside of this building isn’t open to the public, but a few kind words to the guards out front and they may grant you a peek inside through a window – though that’s not guaranteed!
