You’ll hardly want to leave this resort, even for big attractions like nearby LEGOLAND California & SeaWorld.
Situated in the hills of Carlsbad and surrounded by lush gardens, Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara is a secluded resort, offering families an A-list escape. Rather than a hotel, the property boasts a range of well-appointed residential options; you could literally live here. Frankly, you may not want to leave, even though it’s conveniently located near some of San Diego’s biggest draws, like LEGOLAND. On this particular trip, I was venturing solo with my two sons, both under the age of two; Dad had to miss our road trip to Southern California. I was a little hesitant, kinda-sorta concerned I wouldn’t be able to handle such a trip on my own. However, I was pleasantly surprised, thanks to Aviara.
Accommodations at Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara
As expected, the entrance and lobby of this Four Seasons property is invitingly lavish. The staff was so nice, even chatting with my kids while I checked in. We were led to our humble abode: a 1,200-square-foot, one-bedroom villa. I’ve lived in places smaller than this!
Our villa was equipped with a full kitchen (complete with dishwasher), comfortable living space, large dining room, laundry facilities, master bedroom, and master bathroom that I could have stayed in forever. Everything was spotless; for once, I wasn’t concerned about my kids picking up yucky, hotel germs. We also had a balcony, overlooking the golf course. It was perfect.
And get this: the Aviara team had two cribs arranged for my boys, stashed with new stuffed animals, body wash, and diapers. They also had the master bath decorated to the nines with bath sponges that spelled my kids’ names. The kids happily took bubble baths every night. There was also a high chair. Truth be told, the staff thought of everything.
Activities at Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara
Just because you’re in San Diego, doesn’t mean you have to head right to the beach. At the Four Seasons Aviara, you’ll want to stay put, as there are plenty of options for parents and kids.
First, the fantastic pools: a large, deep pool and a small toddler-friendly pool. My boys spent hours in that kiddie pool; it was well-maintained and the perfect depth. Plus, it was heated to perfection. And there’s poolside food and drink service too. The staff will offer you complimentary bottle water, Evian spritzes, chilled towels, and icy treats.
A golf cart concierge drives you anywhere on the property that you want to go. In fact, our driver became my son’s BFF.
The property also boasts an amazing playroom, stashed with anything and everything: arts and crafts, LEGOS, books, games, baby toys, big kid toys, and a handful of TVs for video game playing. That place saved my sanity!
Take some time to pamper yourself at Aviara’s full-service spa. It offers a bunch of soothing treatments. And if you’re on your own (like me), the property can even arrange for babysitting, so Mama (and Daddy) can escape for a quick massage. Or hit the course for a round of golf.
If do want to go to the beach, it’s a mere 10-minute drive. If you have older kids, Aviara offers private surfing lessons. The resort is also super close to LEGOLAND California theme park, water park, and aquarium. It’s a must-do for kids under 10. For more on LEGOLAND, click here. And of course, you’ll want to visit SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo, both SoCal staples. In addition, I’d highly recommend a ballgame at Petco Park (Go Padres!), located in the heart of downtown San Diego. The stadium is extremely kid-friendly. When in town, we always catch a game.
KidTripster Tip: If you’re visiting the area for three days, I’d suggest picking one main attraction and leaving the other days to relax at Aviara. If your trip is longer, you can plan on seeing more attractions. Don’t stress yourself out by doing too much; if you do, it won’t be a vacation!
Dining at Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara
Another resort highlight is the farm-to-table restaurant, called Seasons. Chef Conor invited my kids to make their own pizzas! Seriously, the staff goes above and beyond to make sure your family has a memorable stay. In the back of the restaurant, there’s a separate room where the property offers special dining parties and cooking classes; that’s where we got to sit. It was a special treat for my boys.
If you’d like to eat out, head to the village of Carlsbad. This picturesque coastal, community has an array of shops and restaurants. You’re certain to enjoy the beachy feel.
KidTripster Tip: While no meals are included, you can wake up and order room service for breakfast or cook in your very own kitchen. Just stop at the grocery prior to checking in and save money on dining out.
Cost of Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara
The cost all depends on the season. During peak seasons (holiday and prime vacation times), the villas will run you about $1000/night, but that’s not the norm. Opt for fall or winter when rooms are half the price, around $500/night. For what you’re getting, it’s worth the price.
KidTripster Tip: Shop online specials. The resort offers plenty of package deals and discounts that include spa credits, food credits, and more.
