Day 6: Ferry from Korcula to Dubrovnik
We got up a little early to finish up our packing. We left our luggage outside the door as directed, then had an hour to eat breakfast before meeting our group. It was another beautiful day in Korcula and I spent a few minutes on our hotel balcony taking it all in.
We left the hotel together at 9:30, to catch the 10:00 ferry to Dubrovnik. Daniel took care of our luggage so we just carried our purses and backpacks. Marko purchased our ferry tickets and made sure we boarded the boat together.
The ferry was crowded, as it often is during the height of summer. We grabbed seats where we could find them and settled in. The ride was about two hours, with a stop at Mljet island, site of National Park Mljet, before heading on to Dubrovnik.
Marko checked in on everyone during the ride, getting us beverages, and offering tips on how to best spend our time in Dubrovnik, even providing a handwritten list of restaurant recommendations.
And then suddenly we were in Dubrovnik. As we exited the ferry, I was hit with sadness. Our time with this group was abruptly ending. Everyone had big hugs for one another – and we all shared our sincere appreciation for our guides. Marko, Daniel and Darija had done so much for us. They ensured we had a great week, full of fun, and without any stress.
As one last kind gesture, Daniel had loaded everyone’s luggage into waiting taxis. He walked each family to their taxi, had us check to make sure we had all of our bags, then bid us farewell. These special touches throughout the week exemplified the Austin Adventures difference. The attention to detail was impeccable.
While our vacation was coming to an end, it wasn’t quite over yet. We still had Dubrovnik to check out.
Post-Trip: Dubrovnik
You wouldn’t want to travel all the way to Croatia without spending some time in Dubrovnik. You don’t have to be a Game of Thrones fan to appreciate this historic town, but if you are a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll especially love it here.
Austin Adventures provides transportation at the end of the trip. Most guests were staying a few nights in Dubrovnik, rather than heading directly to the airport. We were staying three nights in Dubrovnik, so our taxi took us to our hotel, Hotel Dubrovnik Palace.

We arrived in the early afternoon, before check-in. Our room wasn’t quite ready, so we had lunch at the hotel while we waited. We’d spent the last six days letting other people handle all the details. Now we had to figure out what to do for ourselves. While we dined, we made a few plans for our weekend in Dubrovnik.
Our plans included: taking the Dubrovnik cable car, walking the old city walls, and doing a food tour. We also looked forward to a little down time after a very busy week. Our hotel had a pool and beach and we planned to spend a few hours there simply relaxing.
