Glitz & glamour plus some family-friendly gems – best hotels for kids in LA

There’s plenty of glitz and glamour in Los Angeles, but I’ve also unearthed some family-friendly gems!  Yes, L.A. stays aren’t cheap, but there’s one particularly good deal in the bunch.  So pack your bags and head to the California sunshine.

1. Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel

1700 Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica

Right on Santa Monica’s famous Muscle Beach, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel provides guest with sunset views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Pier.  Enjoy amusement park rides, explore 26 miles of paved beach pathway or just sit poolside and soak in the sun. Rooms are clean and elegant, and for a price, come with a furnished patio and fire pit.  Starts $500/night.

A boutique hotel with a retro feel, The Garland offers on-site activities like board games in the courtyard, daily evening happy hour, and even dive-in movie nights (classic movies shown poolside). Its location in North Hollywood makes for convenient trips to Universal Studios, Universal CityWalk, and Griffith Park. There’s even a free trolley to Universal Studios and CityWalk.  Rooms with bunk beds available.  Starts at $229/night.

Farm-style hospitality in a boutique hotel? Sounds a bit odd, but it works. The Farmer’s Daughter is inviting for families with unique décor (think barnyard animal art), swimming pool with giant rubber duckies, and plenty of activities nearby, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Griffith Park, and The Grove.  Starts at $285/night.
