LEGOLAND Malaysia

All you need to know for a visit to LEGOLAND Malaysia.

At first glance the LEGOLAND Malaysia park might seem small. The entrance gates are tucked behind the hotel and aquarium, not as grand as other LEGOLAND parks that we’ve visited. However, once inside the gates, the park is expansive.

Theme Park

We’ve spent a lot of time at the LEGOLAND parks in California and Florida. The Malaysia theme park has a similar layout and feel to the other parks. The theme park is bright, decorated with colorful LEGO bricks and LEGO statues.

In all, there are 70 rides and attractions here. You’ll find many familiar rides at this park like LEGO Ninjago and Driving School. This park also has The Great LEGO Race which is a LEGO virtual reality roller coaster. Riders wear a VR headset while riding the roller coaster.

Miniland is always a popular stop for our family. We particularly enjoyed the Miniland in Malaysia because it features famous sights from 17 Asian countries like India’s Taj Mahal, China’s Great Wall and Singapore’s Merlion. There are plenty of buttons for little fingers to push around Miniland, activating motion and noises that are quite entertaining.

KidTripster Tip: The sun can be intense here, but there are several air-conditioned locations around the park where you can escape to cool off. Thunderstorms are common due to Malaysia’s tropical climate, often occurring in the late afternoon or early evening. During a lightning storm, outdoor attractions will close.

Water Park

Another way to cool off is to head next door to the water park. It’s just steps away from the LEGOLAND theme park entrance.

The water park has attractions for all ages – from little kid playgrounds to big kid slides. There’s a wave pool and a lazy river where you can build your own LEGO raft. The park isn’t huge, but there’s definitely something for everyone to do here.

Inside the water park, there are restrooms for changing into your swimwear and lockers for storing your belongings. If you’ve forgotten items like swimsuits, flip flops or towels, you can purchase them at the park.

KidTripster Tip: If you’re staying a the hotel, it’s especially convenient to change in your hotel room then take a short walk to the water park entrance.

SEA LIFE Aquarium

If the theme park and water park aren’t enough to keep you busy, there’s an aquarium, too. SEA LIFE Malaysia opened in 2019. It features 11 themed zones like the Malaysian Rainforest, the Seahorse Nursery and Stingray Bay. There’s an opportunity to interact with sea life in the touchpool.

The aquarium is home to lots of creatures, but it’s a small facility. You’ll probably spend an hour or two here. It should be part of your LEGOLAND visit, but it’s not worth a trip in itself. It’s a good place to take a break from the heat, or to duck into when a thunderstorm rolls in.

LEGOLAND Hotel

We recommend that you stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel to maximize your time and to get the full LEGOLAND experience. The hotel is just steps from all the fun.

Each hotel room is themed: Kingdom, Pirate, and Adventure. The hotel rooms have bunk beds, kiddie sinks, and, you guessed it, LEGOs. Our room had a great view of the theme park and water park.

Here’s KidTripster cub reporter, Eliza, with a look inside one of the hotel rooms.

My kids loved this hotel! Even the elevators were fun with hanging disco balls and the song Everything is Awesome blaring inside. From the minute we arrived, it was LEGOs everywhere, starting with a giant play area in the lobby. There’s a hotel pool on the roof with floating LEGO bricks.

The hotel has a few restaurants on-site, so you don’t need to leave the resort during your visit. The hotel and theme park are accommodating when it comes to food allergies. I have celiac disease. The wait staff was patient and helpful at finding gluten-free foods for me to eat. The breakfast buffet offered both Western and Asian foods. We were intrigued by the many savory and spicy toppings for the breakfast porridge.

Admission Prices

Admission tickets can be purchased online. Buying your ticket online means you can skip the ticketing queue. Just show your e-ticket at the gate for admission.

You can purchase a one-day admission ticket to the theme park, water park or aquarium. Or you can purchase a combination ticket to two or three of the attractions.

Prices vary, but a one-day ticket to enter just the theme park will cost you approximately $45 for adults or $36 for kids/seniors. A one-day combo ticket to enter all three parks costs about $75 for adults or $62 for kids/seniors.

Check the LEGOLAND Malaysia website for current specials, including package deals for hotel guests that offer early entry to the park.

Other Logistics

English is widely spoken in this part of Malaysia. All of the signage around the park is in English and the employees speak English, too.

You’ll find Western amenities in the park restrooms, although you may see some traditional squatty potty style toilets, too. Those were separate stalls, with a marked sign on the door, for those who chose to use them. Most of the toilets were Western style.

Another thing we hadn’t seen at a LEGOLAND before were prayer rooms. There are separate prayer rooms for Muslim men and women.

Transportation

LEGOLAND Malaysia is in Johor Bahru, just across the border from Singapore. Although the trip from Singapore to Malaysia isn’t that many miles, be sure to factor in the time that crossing the border could take. We’re talking around 2 hours! You’ll be passing through two border checkpoints in each direction. Depending on the time and day, it can be very slow-going. This delay can cut into your time at LEGOLAND which is why you might want to stay overnight at the resort.

You can get to LEGOLAND from Singapore by catching a LEGOLAND-operated shuttle bus from the city, by taking public transit, or by hiring a taxi or car service. Our friends in Singapore recommended that we hire a driver for the safest and easiest transportation. The drivers provided booster seats for the kids.

We enjoyed our visit to LEGOLAND Malaysia. It took a little planning and patience to get there, but the kids had a great time.
