Sail Through Europe Together on A-ROSA’s Family-Friendly River Cruises

Day 7: River Day

Day 7 was our only day spent entirely on the ship. We weren’t in a hurry to head out, so we had a leisurely wake up and breakfast.

It was a gorgeous day so we headed to the sun deck where we spent several hours reading in hammocks. When we tired of that, we played cards.

In the late morning, the Up & Down Bar appeared. With the push of a button, the bar silently rises up to the sun deck. And later, back down it goes, retracting into the body of the ship. When it retracts it’s flush to the floor of the sun deck and you can walk right over the top of it. My husband and I used the opportunity to order a few cocktails. The A-ROSA Spritz (rose syrup, cranberry juice, and sparkling wine) was our favorite drink on-board.

Others spent the day in the pool. One of the special offerings on the family cruise is swim lessons. Lessons were offered throughout the week. Kids who completed their courses were awarded certificates on the last day. Ten kids of the 42 on board participated.

Lunch was served BBQ style. The chef grilled burgers and sausages on the deck. That was served alongside corn on the cob, potato salad, and pasta salad. We dined outside with American country music blaring in the background.

There was a brief disembarkation session, presented in German and English. A reminder that our time on-board was coming to a close. We used our afternoon to get packed up.

The dinner buffet had lots of tasty choices, like pork tenderloin, roast beef, filet of perch, and much more. Each night, the buffet included a soup, appetizer, salads, mains, sides, and desserts. Menus are posted on the A-ROSA app so you’ll know what to expect before you arrive.

After dinner, everyone made their way to the lounge for the captain’s farewell celebration. We applauded the crew as they paraded through the lounge.

We were treated to yet another gorgeous sunset. Lucky for us, we had beautiful weather the entire week. There was a little rain during our Brussels excursion, but otherwise it was a sunny week.

Not long after sunset, the ship passed by Dusseldorf. It was a Friday night and we could feel the energy, even from the ship. Live music was playing, the waterfront bars and restaurants were packed with people. It was a bit electric. The ship’s final destination was Cologne, still about 167 nautical miles away.
