Before the leaves start to change color or the calendar turns to fall, Disneyland Resort transforms into Halloween Time. The festive season seems to arrive at Disneyland earlier each year. In 2025, the fall fun gets underway on August 17th with the first Oogie Boogie Bash of the season.

This year, there will be 31 nights of the popular party. It’s held on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights, with a special Halloween night event on Friday, October 31st.

Tickets for the Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party went on sale in late June. They do sell out quickly. In recent years, tickets have been snatched up within hours. The cost of tickets varies significantly by date, especially the closer you get to Halloween.

Here’s what to expect when attending the Oogie Boogie Bash:

  • This is special after hours event at Disney California Adventure Park. The park closes to other guests from 6-11 pm. Oogie Boogie Bash attendees are invited to arrive as early as 3 pm. Take advantage of this to make the most out of your ticket price. You’ll receive a bracelet upon entry that you’ll be asked to show cast members once 6 pm rolls around.
  • Depending on the day, tickets start at $139 per person and peak at $199 per person.
  • When you arrive at Disney California Adventure, you’ll receive a trick-or-treat bag. There will be several immersive trick-or-treat trails set up around the theme park. Trust us, you’ll leave with a ton of treats. You’ll also come face-to-face with some classic villains who are stationed along the trails.
  • As a perk of your ticket, you’ll receive unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads. There will be lots of photo opportunities throughout the park, including fun backdrops and the chance to pose with characters in their Halloween costumes.
  • Several attractions are transformed for Halloween Time. Those include Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree, Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters after Dark.
  • Because attendance is limited, most attraction lines are relatively short, especially as it gets later. There are no Lightning Lanes available during the party hours.
  • The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail transforms at night to Villains Grove, an eerie trail of smoke, lights, and music inspired by villains.
  • The Frightfully Fun Parade typically runs twice per night. Expect favorite like the Headless Horseman, Jack Skellington, Mickey and Minnie in costume, and gravediggers and hitchhiking ghosts.
  • If you want to secure prime parade seating, you can purchase tickets to the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party. It’s pretty expensive, but it includes several desserts and drinks. We did this a few years ago and thought it was ok. We’d had so many treats by the time we arrived we weren’t hungry for more desserts, so we didn’t feel it was worth the money.
  • Look for event specific merchandise that can only be purchased during the event.
  • Costumes are allowed for all-ages, but with certain restrictions. Be sure to check out the rules.

Other Holiday Festivities at Disneyland Resort

While the Oogie Boogie Bash is certainly fun, there are many other Halloween events around the Disneyland resort. Some of our favorite festivities include:

Holiday Attractions

In addition to the themed attractions at Disney California Adventure, don’t miss the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay at Disneyland. It’s inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” and we love it even more than the original.

Festive Decor

You can’t miss the festive decor found throughout the resort. We try to take a photo with the big pumpkin every year. It’s just inside the Disneyland entrance. My kids hate waiting in line for the photo, but I insist.

Be sure to check out the hundreds of hand-carved pumpkins that take over Main Street, USA. Some are in the likeness of your favorite characters. The detailed decor on Main Street, and beyond, is so fun.

Special Parades & Fireworks

A special Halloween Screams nighttime spectacular with fireworks on select nights at Disneyland. This year, the Paint the Night – 70th Celebration is the featured parade. It includes more than a million LED lights.

For the little ones there “Mickey’s Trick and Treat” which is a stage show at Disney California Adventure Park. It’s more silly than spooky!

Characters in Costume

At this time of year, you might not recognize your favorite characters as they’re decked out in their Halloween costumes. You’ll find them at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

KidTripster Tip: If your kids hate waiting in character lines, you can meet characters in costume at special dining events. Attend Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween for an opportunity to dine and meet characters in a more casual setting. There’s also a seasonal breakfast buffet offered at Storyteller’s Cafe at the Grand Californian.

Dia de los Muertos Celebrations

Dia de los Muertos has prominence throughout the parks, too. Be sure to visit the Plaza de la Familia located at the Paradise Garden Grill for a colorful celebration marked by food, music, art, storytelling and dance inspired by the Pixar film Coco. The street performance is a fun and lively event. You’ll also find a tribute to Dia de los Muertos in Disneyland by the Rancho del Zocala Restaurante.

Spooky Treats & Stuff

You can count on Disney to give your plenty of reasons to spend even more money. The themed treats are irresistible and new holiday merchandise debuts each year.

The 70th anniversary celebrations at Disneyland Resort will continue throughout the Halloween Time season. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955.

Where to Stay at Disneyland Resort

When attending the Oogie Boogie Bash, we prefer to stay at the Grand Californian or Pixar Place. Both hotels have direct access to Disney California Adventure Park. It’s nice to have a short walk home at the end of a late night.

We make all of our Disney reservations through our partners at Magic Family Getaways. The travel advisors are Disney experts and simplify the booking and planning process. Their services are free of charge to you. Mention KidTripster when booking and we’ll receive a small commission, again at no additional cost to you. These commissions help sustain our small business.
